The title to this work comes from an album composed by Philip Glass and Pt. Ravi Shankar. The artwork was the first inspiration which led to various other thoughts of juxtaposing opposing characters. The image on the left represents the darkness of the night, while the right, a more a mellow day. The character in the left represents the outgoing and international, while the right is reserved and ethnic. The ‘joker and the queen’, typically seen in playing cards are transformed through photographs and symbols. Hunter and prey images blend with the traditional motifs of spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds.
